Which Screen Protectors Work With the Apple iPhone Duo Case?
Last updated . We have not tested these cases ourselves. Findings come from the reviewers linked on each point.
Most outer-display screen protectors don't work with Apple's iPhone Duo Case. The case has a front frame that sits right where protectors end, and case-tester.com found that frame pushes the glass up at the edges. The one protector we found that its maker says is designed for Apple's case is TORRAS's SunView AR HD, and that's a manufacturer claim we haven't seen tested.
Why protectors and front frames clash
In case-tester.com's test of four outer-display protectors, each left a narrow strip (about two millimetres on the smaller ones) uncovered at the edge, which is exactly where most cases put their front frame. Fit the frame over the glass and it lifts the edges. Its conclusion: a protector or a case with a front frame, not both (case-tester.com). Apple's case is a front-frame design (Apple).
Protectors and the Apple Duo Case
| Protector | With Apple's Duo Case? | Source |
|---|---|---|
| TORRAS SunView AR HD | Designed for it: TORRAS says it is made only for the Apple iPhone Duo Case (Sand and Navy Blue). Listed as pre-order; not independently tested. | TORRAS · See it at torraslife.com |
| TORRAS Anti-Reflect (OrigArmor) | Not with front-frame cases. Best overall in case-tester.com's test when used with a frame-free case. | case-tester.com |
| Spigen GLAS.tR EZ FIT | Not with front-frame cases. Easiest install in the test, but one corner on the tester's unit wouldn't stay down. | case-tester.com |
| JETech outer-screen glass | Not with front-frame cases. Cheapest; the tester's tray gave a crooked fit. | case-tester.com |

Never on the inner display
The folding inner display ships with a nano-texture cover layer that Apple calls an integral part of the display. Apple says not to try to remove it and warns that adding an external screen protector can compromise display performance (Apple Support). case-tester.com tried an inner film anyway and still advises against it (case-tester.com).
Want a protector without the guesswork?
Use a case with no front frame. In case-tester.com's case test, the JETech back shell, the TORRO wallet and Apple's own Folio all worked with a protector (case-tester.com). See cases that work with a screen protector and our front-frame fit guide.
Apple's case that does take a protector
Apple iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand
Magnetic folio with no front frame, so a protector fits under it without trouble (case-tester.com).
- Attaches purely by magnets, front and back; takes a screen protector without issue; microfibre lining. (case-tester.com)
- Frame is fully exposed, and MagSafe hold measured 0.88 kg, which case-tester.com says rules out a car mount. (case-tester.com)
- Popular Mechanics' 'Best Folio' pick; it notes magnet-only attachment isn't as secure as a snap-on case in a heavy drop. (Popular Mechanics)
- WSJ cautions that folio-style cases block either the outer display or the main cameras; you can't use both at once. (WSJ Buy Side)
Attachment: Magnetic only, front and back; no adhesive (case-tester.com, MacRumors)

Cheapest frame-free option
JETech Vegan Leather Case with Hinge Protection
Back shell only, hinge covered at the side, strong MagSafe.
- Back shell only: no front frame and no adhesive strips, so it comes off whenever you like. (case-tester.com)
- Hinge is covered at the side; the shell folds back against the phone by itself. (case-tester.com)
- MagSafe held 1.84 kg on case-tester.com's pull gauge, the strongest of the US-available cases tested. (case-tester.com)
- Because nothing sits on the front, a screen protector works without trouble. (case-tester.com)
- Downsides: protects the back only, no inner lining, frame stays exposed. (case-tester.com)
- Amazon listing states: back cover with hinge protection only; front cover and screen protector NOT included. (Amazon product listing)
Attachment: No adhesive: back shell only, comes off whenever you like (case-tester.com)
